THE STORYLINES "The
Pilot" (001) (Script

of a long term relationship, wanders into the Rock-A-Bar and is befriended by
a group of the bar regulars. He spends the evening bonding with this clique of
misfits and ends up as a member of the group himself. "On
the Job" (002) (Script available online)
Baxter does a guest spot on the Howard Stern show. Richard meets an editor for
the Manhattan magazine and attempts to write an article in the bar. Paul talks
to lawyer in the bar about representing him in a wrongful termination suit, and
Samantha helps JD foil a coworkers plan to sue his company based on their failed
romance. "The
Lights on Broadway" (003) (Script
available online) Samantha is doing a
musical revue. Richard has a reading of his new one-act play by a small theater
group and Gina gets a gig at the Stand Up. Everyone promises to go to all of the
productions but nobody does. Meanwhile, Paul lands a job as a PA on a movie, as
JD fulfills a lifelong ambition by helping a friend who is producing a Rap CD. "Shades
of Gray" (004) Paul's new girlfriend is black, which prompts JD to
face his fear of having an interracial relationship. He ends up dating an Asian
woman. Richard claims that he's not attracted to nonwhite women, which infuriates
Samantha. "Crime and Punishment"
(005) A semi-regular from the Rock-A-Bar is killed in the park, Samantha
is accosted in the bathroom and Julio is arrested for possession of cocaine. The
satiric nature of the group softens the dark tone of this episode as adversity
is met with humor. "All
Hallows Eve " (006) Halloween at the Rock-A-Bar. In this episode
of mistaken identity, nobody cares with whom they end up making out in the bathroom,
even if they end up with the wrong sex. When the masks come off, they all avoid
embarrassment by means of relentless denial. "You
Look Shorter in Person " (007) Richard and Samantha are certain that
a new customer is Matthew Broderick. When he gets totally drunk and leaves with
JD and Paul, it becomes apparent to them that it was not the famous star. But
when his girlfriend, who bares a striking resemblance to Sara Jessica Parker,
shows up looking for him, the mystery lives on.
"The Tourist Trap" (008) When an international tourist company
drops off a bus load of English and German tourist, the Rock-A-Bar is ignited
by the influx of new blood. Richard and Samantha befriend a German couple, after
which, Samantha catches the wife in the bathroom with another woman. A woman from
the English group falls in love with Trent and ends up staying after the tour
bus leaves even though Trent doesn't want a relationship.
"She's
Back " (009) (Script
available online) Richard's girlfriend
shows up at the bar. Paul is enchanted by her. Richard thinks she wants to get
back together with him. Samantha thinks she's a bitch. And when Richard finally
discloses the reason for their breakup, the tone of the evening goes from frivolous
to fearsome. (VHS
of this episode available.) "Club
Nouveau " (010) When the bar is closed for an evening for health
code violations, the gang decides to go down to Club Nouveau and visit Baxter.
Though the clientele is the same social class as that of the Rock-A-Bar, the club
is far classier and the customers are very fashionably dressed. The music is great,
it's easy to meet people and Baxter is a fabulous DJ. None the less, the gang
misses the trashy ambiance of their home turf. "Friends
and Lovers" (011) When Baxter reveals that Gina and Paul slept together,
temptation overcomes judgment and Richard and Samantha end up in bed together.
JD and Stacey decide a bed is not necessary and just do it in the bathroom. Bad
feelings between jealous friends and misbegotten lovers are abated by promises
to abstain from any further affairs. "Directors
Cut " (012) A music video production company decides to use the bar
and its patrons for a shoot of a very popular band. Everyone is very excited and
wants to be involved beyond just being extras. Richard gives "suggestions"
to the director, JD talks to the band about re-mixing their new song, Samantha
dances through every shot and Paul tries to score with the female star of the
video. The company finally decides to shoot the video elsewhere. "Closing
Time " (013) The owner of the bar shows up and informs Trent that
the bar may be sold. Everyone is shocked and refuses to believe their safe haven
will be taken away from them. After the bar closes that evening, Richard and the
gang find out that the party doesn't end for the bartenders on the crawl after
closing-time. The next day when they arrive at the bar there is a sign announcing
it will be closed until further notice.
